Opportunities for paid and unpaid positions with the Mammal Society.

Credit: Jenny Hibbert

We are an award-winning evidence-based conservation charity. For over 70 years we have been championing better protection of British mammals through professional and citizen science projects. We are at an exciting time in our history with ambitious plans to broaden our reach and increase our impact on the conservation of mammals here in the UK.

Operating with a small permanent staff team, we frequently advertise for contract and part-time positions on projects and volunteer roles supporting our communications events and programmes.

We are always receptive to suggestions from people with an idea of how they might contribute their energy and time to support our work - especially from those with skills in data analysis, GIS mapping, video editing, photography/ videography and fundraising. If you have an idea that you feel supports the vision of the Mammal Society and the energy and time to take it forward, we will seek to support you to do so where possible. Email info@themammalsociety.org with a CV and proposal.

When applying for a position at the Mammal Society we would be grateful if you could also complete and return an Equality & diversity monitoring form, but this is optional and may be submitted separately.

All applicants will be notified of the status of their application. As we are a small charity we cannot offer individual feedback to non-shortlisted candidates. We are committed to protecting the privacy of your data, and we will not pass your details on to any third party.

Call for Trustees

The Mammal Society is inviting applications for new members of our Council of Trustees. It’s a hugely rewarding way to use your time and talents to support and enhance our vital work supporting science-led mammal conservation. Applications will be discussed and voted on by existing council members in the AGM. The Council meets quarterly and plays a key decision-making role in the strategy and direction of the charity. You’ll have opportunities to input into areas of work of most relevance to your strengths and interests. Experience of mammal conservation is not required! We would value skills, insight and experience in a range of areas including legal, financial, fundraising, and campaigning. If you feel you have something to offer, please get in touch!

The Mammal Society is keen to invite applicants from diverse backgrounds and a range of ages.

For information about the responsibilities of a charity trustee, view The essential trustee guidance (gov.uk).

For more information, or to register your interest in a position on the Council, please email Chair of the Council Steph Wray: stephanie.wray@naturepositive.com

Volunteering

Volunteers are a vital part of the work that we do at the Mammal Society. Opportunities are home-based, though some travel for events or trainings may be required – in which case all expenses would be paid.

If you have skills that you feel could benefit The Mammal Society, and would like to gain experience of a small but ambitious conservation charity, please send your CV, availability and ideas / area of interest to info@themammalsociety.org. Please note that a DBS check may be required, depending on the area of work with which you engage.  We would be grateful if you could also complete and return an Equality & diversity monitoring form, but this is optional and may be submitted separately. We warmly invite volunteers from a range of backgrounds, especially those from ethnic minority communities and Disabled people.

Volunteering support is especially valued in:

  • Regional Coordination of our Harvest Mouse survey

  • Social media and communications

  • Photography and videography

  • Fundraising

  • Training in wildlife surveying techniques and animal behaviours

  • Education (schools engagement and development of educational content)

  • Scientific data analysis and report writing (qualifications and experience required)
