Beaver Ecology and Conservation (Online)

PC: Jason Perry

Delve into the intriguing history of beavers, from their near-complete extinction to contemporary restoration initiatives. Gain insights into their behaviors, biology, ecology, and potential impacts on ecosystems, coupled with an examination of their legal status and mitigation options. This workshop will illuminate the basic biology, ecology, and behaviors of these captivating animals, now an integral part of our mammal assemblage.

While direct observation of beavers may pose challenges, we will equip you to decipher their distinctive field signs, offering valuable information on their habitat use and lifestyles.

In addition to exploring the conservation status of the species, the workshop will discuss the ecological benefits and potential conflicts associated with beaver reintroduction. It touches on management solutions, empowering participants to contribute to the re-establishment of a connection with this once-widespread ecosystem engineer.

Join us for a day of immersive learning, as we navigate the complexities of beaver reintroduction and its implications for conservation and ecosystem restoration.

This one-day workshop, is delivered in partnership with Beaver Trust - a nature restoration charity, established in September 2019 - who aim to provide a comprehensive exploration of the Eurasian beaver, a native British mammal currently garnering significant attention due to both official and unofficial reintroduction efforts.

This workshop will take place on Zoom.
